Scholar must log at least 80 hours. Less than 80 hours will result in automatic failure and dismissal from the program. Scholar must score at least an 80% on the assignment or be dismissed from program.There is no opportunity to redo this assignment.
Journal entries must be completed for each day (or at least every 10 hours) a Scholar works at an internship. Hours must be logged within the journal. Content should be focused on Scholar’s work and observations of the workplace. Journal entries can be informally written and are meant to be used as a tool to help Scholar organize thoughts and ideas for the reflection post.
10% – 8 entries – must do at least one entry each day worked or at least every 10 hours of internship. Minimum of 8 entries required.
10% – Mentor Check – After first 10 hours of internship, journal entry or entries will be submitted to Mentor or Entrepreneurship Coordinator to ensure quality. Grade is based on completion of journal and effort, not on content, as this is a check to ensure quality.
80% – Content – entries are well thought out and each entry is at least 250 words in length, Scholars can use the following questions for prompts if desired:
1. Discuss the major responsibilities you have had to date. Did you feel prepared to handle these responsibilities?
2. What are the expectations for your character (how you conduct yourself and decisions you make) and personality (how you behave and interact with others) at your internship?
3. Describe your feelings, attitudes and expectations of your internship up to this point. Why do you feel this way?
4. What problems or challenges have you encountered and how have you or did you resolve them?
5. How has the trait of leadership been displayed during your internship by one of the workers or managers on site?
6. What specific skills have you developed during your internship?
7. What does the career path look like for someone who is entering this industry? Does it motivate you?
8. Describe a time of growth during your internship when you had to leave your comfort zone.
9. Besides the specific skills (such using Excel) that you learned to do your job what other “soft” skills have you acquired?
10. Describe an event or project that failed or succeeded at your internship and analyze the cause of success or failure.
